In the last week of school in December 2019 Burnside SHS sent 8 teams to descend on the Gold Coast to compete at the 36th Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. This was Burnside SHS's 25th trip to the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup. The AVSC is the largest school sporting event held in Australia for school-aged children. 2019 was the first time the event had been held on the Gold Coast and consisted of 6000 athletes in 413 teams from 124 schools across Australia and New Zealand.
The Burnside 2019 tour group saw a mix of students from grade 7 – 12. It was a fantastic week of volleyball with our students getting the opportunity to compete against schools from across Australia, as well as getting out and seeing a little of the Gold Coast. This tournament really is the pinnacle of competition for schools Volleyball and our students gain enormously from the experience, both physically and socially.
Burnside teams’ results in 2019 AVSC were:
Year 7 Girls Div. 2 – 7th
Year 7 Boys Div. 2 – 5th
