Burnside SHS is located in the suburb of Nambour and opened on 30th January 1979. The school is located 93kms from Brisbane, an one and half hours train trip. Burnside is 8kms from the lush hinterland of the Sunshine Coast with the rural villages of Maleny and Montville. These are small artistic communities in close proximity to beautiful national parks such as Kondalilla National park, Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, Gardner Falls, Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World. Our famous Sunshine Coast beaches of Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba are located 20kms in the other direction. In addition, a Dance studio, Tennis, Basketball, Netball and Football sporting clubs are located in close proximity to the school. This allows students to partake in extra-curricular activities after school if they wish.
All our host families provide loving and supportive homes for our students. Many are long time host families and have established life long bonds with students and families from other countries.
