The Gifted and talented program aims to extend students from all grades in their area of interest and expertise. Students asked to take part in these activities are identified from their performance in their academic studies, as well as by teacher recommendation.
Students interested in the humanities have taken part in poetry and English competitions, and have also attended ‘Days of Excellence’ in magazine article writing. They have also had the opportunity to hone their debating and speech writing skills.
Students who excel at science and maths have visited hospitals to learn about medical research and have also studied the night sky at the planetarium. Burnside State High has close relations with the University of the Sunshine Coast and a number of our junior students have taken part in the Science, technology, engineering and mathematics program offered by this institution.
