How to Apply
To apply for a scholarship, complete the application form here and provide a submission to the school Administration Office. Submissions should include a covering letter and supporting documentation e.g. awards, letters of recommendation, samples of work etc. Scholarship application submissions close 3:00pm Friday 6 October 2023 (except Volleyball Excellence which closes Friday 11 August 2023).
Gifted and Talented
Our unique Year 7 Gifted and Talented Scholarship will extend students in their areas of talent and skill, be it the Arts, Technology, Problem Solving, Numeracy, Literacy or general academia.
Students are mentored so that every opportunity to excel in their chosen field is explored and harnessed. Scholarship includes:
• Student Resource Scheme fee waived for one year
• Gift and talent identification
• Personalised extension program
• Competitions, prizes, awards
Horizons Excellence Program
Burnside State High School’s innovative Horizons Excellence Program gives students the opportunity to learn via state-of-the-art technology and curriculum delivery. This one-of-a-kind program offers excellent learning opportunities for students. Scholarship for one Year 7 student includes:
• Student Resource Scheme fee waived for one year
• Horizons Excellence Program laptop fee waived for one year
Music Excellence
For students with a gift for Music - Brass, Strings, even Rock and Roll. Great for students wanting a music industry pathway. This scholarship is for lovers of music in its many forms. Scholarship for one Year 7 student includes:
• Student Resource Scheme fee waived for one year
• Array of performance opportunities
• Tertiary pathway programs
Sports Scholarship
This scholarship is aimed at students who want to fully immerse themselves in the school-based sports offered at Burnside SHS. Our HPE staff are experienced across a range of disciplines and will encourage the scholarship recipient to make the most of sporting opportunities at Burnside SHS. Scholarship for one Year 7 student includes:
• Student Resource Scheme fee waived for one year
• Free sports uniform upon enrolment (sports shorts and polo shirt)
• Sports pack
• Access to after-school training sessions
• Representative pathway guidance
Volleyball Excellence (closes Friday 11 August 2023)
Be a part of Queensland’s most successful Volleyball Excellence Program. Burnside SHS has produced hundreds of representative players for the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and Australia. To qualify for a Volleyball Excellence scholarship in 2024, current Year 6 students must attend our annual Burnside Cup event, which will act as a form of selection trial. In 2023, the Burnside Cup will be held in Term 3 with applications for participation due Friday 11 August 2023. Scholarship includes:
• Student Resource Scheme fee waived for one year
• Volleyball subject fee waived for one year
• Free Volleyball dress shirt
• Sports bag
• Travel opportunities
• Representative pathway guidance
Japanese Enrichment
This exciting scholarship is for the most outstanding Year 11 student in our Japanese Language Program.
The successful student studies for one month at one of our sister schools in Japan to extend their knowledge and skill in Japanese language and culture. Scholarship includes:
• Airfare to Japan
• Japanese homestay experience
• Japanese school experience
